The Series Vetri Murano

Introducing: the Vetri Murano series. A collection of six sculptural lamps handcrafted on the island of Murano, Italy. Moulded from mouth-blown opaline glass following centuries-old techniques, each piece combines a legacy of craftmanship with a classic yet contemporary expression.

The origins An island of glassmakers

The series takes its name from the Venetian island of Murano, home to a strong community of glass workers. In 1291, when Venice was mostly built from wood, local authorities ordered all glassmakers to move to Murano, as their furnaces were causing repeated fires. Today, centuries on, the island's narrow streets are still dotted with workshops of glassmakers busy honing and upholding the storied craft.

The craft Generations of know-how

Practised, perfected, passed on. From the blowing of the glass to the design of the swirled pattern, every detail of the Vetri Murano lamps pays homage to a 700-year-old craft. Passed down through generations of skilled artisans, these time-tested techniques ensure each lamp becomes a lasting piece of quality design.

The pattern A signature swirl

The recognisable swirl that defines the design of the Vetri Murano series is commonly known as Rigadin among Murano's glassmakers. The word, as spoken in the local dialect, derives from the Italian term riga meaning line or stripe. The swirled pattern of the Vetri Murano series is obtained using an original 1970s mould, picked specifically to give each lamp a clean and sculptural expression.
